That’s 70 show episode “A new Hope”
begins with a Starwars like reel introducing the episode that is all about the
new film coming out Starwars. When the guys are in the theater the camera pans
across all of their faces, the next scene that uses interesting film use, is
when they’re in the basement talking about starwars; the lighting is darker not
only to show they’re in the basement but also to show that the man that Eric
will be meeting is nothing but trouble. When the guys discuss David hitting on
Donna the general technique that is used often in these chats was the camera
panning right in a circular motion. This is the only show that uses this in
most episodes, this allows for humor to be brought to the show as in this
episode Fez suggests Eric just let Donna go. It’s the ideas that are considered
of the dumb comments from Kelso about his relationship with Jacquie that the
camera circulating is supposed to make you laugh. When Eric falls asleep we see
him lying on a couch and Red’s voice start to come into the scene without his
body present. This helps to show us he is dreaming. The way the camera films
the episode helps to show the viewer what is going on.
That 70s show is a great show but that's an opinion. They however for a comedy televison show use a lot of film techniques in every episode. From the zoom ins on Red's or Eric's face showing tension to the normal long shots of each character. I enjoyed the star wars one but i like the one where Eric gets outed by his dad for the commercial for their store. Red says Eric is to scrawny and not a good looking kid for the part of a stock boy so Kelso gets the role. They use a lot of camera techniques with sound over and transitions. Its also shot in black and white. Its basically like a 1960s commercial with a random voice speaking about the ways an employee should work. They have zoom in on Kelso and hes doing cheesy lines pretending its an action movie. In the end they go with Eric for the role and the final shot is of Eric smiling like a goof zooming in on him while his dad the manger is in the back ground. I also like the way the camera pans around the circle when they are doing illegal substances.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the episode "A New Hope" too and it was hilarious. Not only do I love that 70's show but I also have a creepy obsession with Star Wars. This show is always using a bunch of different film techniques but in this episode I so happened to notice that when Eric starts getting jealous of David Millbank because he thinks that he is putting the moves on his girlfriend Donna, he has a dream that was based around the Star Wars movie that they became obsessed with A New Hope. As he falls asleep there is a dissolved fade from reality to his dreamland and he is in the deathstar ship with Darth Vader. All of Eric's close buddies and family are portrayed as the characters in Star Wars because it was clearly bothering him that his girlfriend is being hit on by some other guy. What also is significant about this scene is that his friends and family as the characters were exactly how they normally are in reality. His friends being goofy and his father always critiszing him. His mother being the loving and goofy house wife, is always nice to him.
