Beastly

I recently watched the movie Beastly. There is a boy who is very attractive and rude to people that he sees inferior to him. He doesn’t understand what it’s like to be unattractive. As he was humiliating one of his unattractive “friends” she warns him to be nice or the consequence will be unforgettable. As he doesn’t see the harm in her at all, he continues to harass her in front of the whole school. There is a girl he meets for the first time; she is very nice and attractive but different. Even though he doesn’t directly admit her secretly likes her, us as the viewers can tell. She is attracted to him as well but sees the rudeness in his personality and that changes her mood. As the consequence for being rude to his “friend”, she has special powers and turns him into someone who is very unattractive and almost scary looking. She tells him he must find someone to fall in love with him as he is in a year or else he will look like that for the rest of his life. As he goes on his journey to find a girl who will truly love him for who he is, there is a great use of montage showing him to become a understanding person as he wasn’t before. It’s a transition from the rude person he was into the caring person he is becoming.

  1. I have also seen Beastly in the past, one thing i noticed was the comparison of Kyle and his father. Kyle’s dad is an aggressively awful father. Everything about his intro scene is calculated to make the audience hate him but it also shows why Kyle is the way he is. His dad is a looks-obsessed man that has to be texted to take notice of his son. The scene with his dad shows a little bit of grace to Pettyfer’s abilities. When his father fails to take interest in Kyle winning Sexiest Senior you can actually see something die in Kyle’s eyes. Kyle feels like a failure to his look-obsessed father and eventually gives up on looking for love or for the curse to be lifted. Especially when his dad sends him away so no one can see him.
