In the movie 13 going on 30 its about a girl named Jenna Rink wanting to fast forward her life because she doesn't fit in well with the popular girls in school. so on her thirteenth birthday when things don't go according to plan she makes a wish on magic dust to be "30 and flirty and thriving." when she wakes up she is older, and living on her own in a different city as the editor of poise a popular magazine. throughout the movie Jenna tries to connect with her friend matt who she ditched in middle school and try to figure out what is going on in her new life with new resposibilities all the while of falling in love with her old best friend.
The theme that this movie is trying to tell is to enjoy your youth and not grow up to fast which Jenna learns throughout the movie. Because even though she is having fun at first she then realises the amount of responsibility she has. With her having to recreate the company because of competion with another magizine while also learning that she was mistreating her co worker. Besides just work Jenna also had to face facts that she has a broken relationship with her parents. she learns that she hasn't visited them in a while, didn't know that they went on vacation and has their calls avoided at work and at home. So as Jenna comes to the realization of what her life has become she wants everything to go back to the way her life was when she was a kid. But luckily mistakes are to be learned from and she corrects them. she makes amends with her parents and childhood friend who she love and corrects the mistakes she has made including sleeping with a married man and betraying her company. In the end learning that she has to appretiate what she has in life.

13 Going on 30 is one of my favorite movies. I've literally seen it about 50 times. It uses a lot of montages throughout the whole film. For example, there is a scene where Jenna is about to go out for a business event. She's newly 30 and is just living it up. They play an upbeat song as she is shown progressively getting ready and enjoying all of her new clothes and makeup. It''s meant to show the time going by and to show how she's loving her "new" age. Another montage occurs when Jenna and Matt are putting together a story for her magazine. She hires him to be the photographer and the montage shows the two of them in central park taking pictures and becoming really close friends again. There is another scene where Jenna and Matt start to look through their high school year book so Jenna can see what she missed when she "time traveled". The camera does many close ups on her face as she reacts to the fact that she became popular. Then it pans to Matt's face as the audience realizes that he was upset.
ReplyDelete13 Going on 30 is a romantic comedy that has a magical twist that allows it to commentate on youth. Not only does it teach its audience to enjoy a youthful adolecence, it teaches one to preserve youth so that adulthood can be fully enjoyed. The protagonist, Jenna Wrink, is a thirteen year old girl who through the help of some wishing dust becomes her thirty year old self. After realizing what happened she accepts her age and dutifully carries out adult responsibilities, but because of her underlying youth she manages to make her life better than those around her who have shed their whimsical and youthful tendencies.
ReplyDeleteFor example, Jenna was able to make the most of an important work event by playing Thriller, a song which she enjoyed dancing to as a teenager. The memories associated with the song and the thrill of doing the dance from the music video made people want to stay at the event and socialize and network rather than leave the company's party.
Additionally, Jenna is also able to further the company she works for by looking back at her high school yearbooks, a time people rarely want to remember, and incorporate the youthful picture displays into the redesign of the magazine she was working on for her company.
Most importantly, Jenna finds love through her youthful pursuits. In fact their first kissed occurred after procuring Razzles, a wildly popular candy during their adolescence years and challenging one another to a contest on a swing set.
None of these things would have happened in her life if she didn't lead a youthful existence by both enjoying her adolescence and maintaining that vitality as an adult.
