Recently I watched an Episode of the TV show Scrubs entitles
“My Own Worst Enemy.” Two of the main Characters, Elliot and JD are struggling
to not ruin their current relationships. The show is mainly told by JD’s point
of view but it switches periodically as the focus changes from character to
character. It is set in a hospital and the lighting portrays the area to be
very clean and tidy, however when any unfortunate event happens the lighting
slightly dims. And apart from those few unfortunate moments the background
music goes along with the comedy of the episode. Camera work stays somewhat
consistent throughout all the episodes. To symbolize the non-stop action and busyness
of the hospital many shots are panning and tracking shots following along with
the person of focus. Also the most symbolic part of all the episodes is the
voice over that represents the internal dialogue of the main character. These internal
dialogues often interrupt the actual conversation and reveal to the audience
the truthful feelings of JD that none of the other characters know. Although
the show is a comedy it has many truthful underlying themes and these themes
are almost always revealed In that way.

I also watch the show scrubs and have seen the episode that you are talking about. One thing that I really like about both this episode and the show as a whole is how much of it is told from only one point of view, JDs. I feel as though this gives each episode of the show a unique feel as often times you are never quite sure what other characters are thinking. It also is a refreshing break from more "normal" ways of storytelling such as were you very rarely get to see what any character is thinking and really only have their dialogue to guess what they are feeling. Another thing about the show that I enjoy is the way it portrays the hospital itself. Too often in medical type shows you get this false sense that there is always constant drama happening, scrubs goes a different angle and shows that this isn’t always the case. Although there are some more serious parts of the show as there should be in anything that takes place in a hospital what scrubs does best is that it lightens up these moment through
