I just recently re-watched the movie The Notebook and it’s by far one of the most heart-warming movies I have ever seen. I love this movie a lot. During the movie the audience starts to see a great connection between Noah and Allie. There are scenes in the movie where it shows Noah and Allie when they are old and in a nursing home together. Noah is reading to Allie about their life story and when he’s reading the scene cuts back to the past when they were both younger. This gets the audience to feel their emotional connection even more because we see all the stuff they’ve been through but we know they still end up together; therefore it made it seem as if they’re “meant-to-be.” One scene that stands out to me was when Allie and Noah were out on the water and it started to rain. This is when they both realized they still loved each other and the setting of the rain helped with that affect because it brought out their emotions for one another. Throughout this whole movie the audience gets attached to each one of them and it sure made me cry at the end.

I’ve also seen the notebook multiple times and fell in love with the hopeless romance that is portrayed within the film. Noah, a poor country boy, and Allie, a rich city girl, meet in Noah’s village in summertime and fall in love with each other. Allie’s mother forbids the relationship and takes Allie away to New York, where a few years later she gets engaged to Lon, an educated rich man. Before the wedding she reads a newspaper and sees Noah in front of a house he once promised her to restore. She goes there and soon they find they still love each other. So Allie decides to dump Lon and be with Noah. The movie ends as Allie realizes that the story Noah has been reading to her is in fact the story of their romance. They fall asleep holding hands and die peacefully.
ReplyDeleteThe movie uses an extreme amount of close-ups on the characters, mostly Allie, and Noah; but this is to show the intense emotion that they still felt for one another. Because of their connection the misunderstandings that are misconstrued lead to a separation but then only to overcome those obstacles to bring them back together. It also has a great suspense that gets solved at the end of the movie. The movie is for those who believe that love can last forever, without that thought; the movie would be pointless to that viewer.
I was skeptical when one of my friends got me to watch this years ago. Now I have to watch it every time it's on. Making Lon, Allie's fiance, a nice guy was really different from what a lot of movies do. Usually, the other man is presented as abusive, aggressive, or a terrible match for the main female. This is usually so in comparision, the lead male will look even better. In this movie though, he is extremely nice, understanding, and even lets Allie go to Noah in the end, because he knows she won't be happy with him. This makes the audience sympathize with him as well. I think one big aspect that makes it so emotionally gripping is the fact that everyone grows older so the teenagers of yesterday end up being parents and grandparents. Allie and Noah were once young and carefree like everybody else so seeing the end of their lives is really saddening. It's also a bit tragic in a way, because Allie keeps going farther and farther into dementia and can't remember who Noah is anymore. The scene when they are dancing toward the end and she suddenly lashes out, not knowing who or where she is brings back the harsh reality of what's happening to her. The song choice is also very appropriate, using "I'll Be Seeing You" even when Allie is screaming at Noah to get away. It heightens the emotion of the scene to a new level, because the lyrics talk about seeing someone in the old familiar places they used to meet, like the park, the small cafe, the wishing well. When Allie is near things that are familiar to her, she starts to regain her memory, if only for a short while. In the last scene of the movie, the song's title is also the last thing Noah says to Allie.
ReplyDeleteThe Notebook is by far one of my favorite romantic movies, with the reason for this being that it has a unique story line that sets the movie apart from other classic love stories. One very important element of the movie is character development. You get to see Allie and Noah as teenagers, young, carefree and happily in love, and then you also get to see them in their later years and see how they have age and the problems they now have to deal with. This really helps you understand their relationship because even though Allie has Alzheimer’s and can no longer remember Noah, he is still in love with her and stays by her side helping her out and caring for her. Another element of the movie that adds to the romance is setting. In the scene, where Allie and Noah go for a boat ride on the pond, the setting is very important because the whole idea of going for a boat ride on a cute little pond with birds and flowers surrounding it is very romantic and fairytale like. Also, the house that Noah builds is very romantic because it’s the ideal American dream house, complete with a large wrap around porch, and coincidently the kind of house Allie had said she wanted to live in when she was older.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite movies! One of the scenes that stands out to me is in the beginning when Noah asks Allie out. The setting is a at a fair and he does it on a ferris wheel. In the start of this scene they show a long shot of a ferris wheel and they pan the whole thing so you can get a good view of it. Then they show a shot Allie and a guy on the ferris wheel, and you see Noah running toward them getting ready to jump up on to there seat. In this shot they then use a low angle looking up to the ferris wheel so that you can watch Noah struggle and the ferris wheel moving. Another time when they use this low angle looking up at the ferris wheel so that you can see the whole thing is when the guy in charge of the ride stops it because there isn't suppose to be more than 2 in a seat. Then they use a long shot to show Noah when he jumped off the seat and hung from the bar. They use so many different shots in this scene to show the differnt views of the ferris wheel and then you can see everything that is going on.
