The Walking Dead
I have recently watched an episode of the walking dead that was the mid season premier titled "Nebraska". This episode starts out with a recap of what has recently happened on the series. After is shows us how the tension starts to unravel after a mental break down of one of the main characters Shane when he shot up a barn full of walkers (people that are dead but by being bit by another walker they come to life in a primitive form and have no personality all they do is walk and eat anything that moves). One of the best scenes i think is when Hershel (another main character) is in a bar. Hershel has not been drinking alcohol for a long time and this represents mis en scene. It show Hershel in a broken down bar and this represents how the world around them is slowly getting worse as hope begins to disappear just like how Hershel is beginning to break down and give in to temptation. Also the camera angle is very important in the bar because you see a medium shot of Hershel and Rick (the main character) and a long shot of Glenn (a semi-main character) in the background. This shows that Glenn is more of an outsider and is not as good in confrontation as Rick. The producers of this show really make it fun to watch.

I have also recently watched the TV she "The Walking Dead" and it happened to also be the episode titled "Nebraska". This episode was just like every other walking dead episode, very dark and gritty. The show does a very nice job at showing humanity and how we behave in dire situations. In this episode we get a great look at the evolution of the main character named Rick. Rick starts out as a cop and family man and is now evolving into a survivor and a protector of his group of the living. At the beginning of the series he would be hard-pressed to shoot another living human, but by the time this episode happens he will kill anyone who threatens the group. At the end of this episode he shoots two survivors(who didn't belong to his group) because they were a threat. Yes he also did this in self defense, but he showed little to no remorse for something he previously has been seen being disgusted by. Rick isn't the only character being desensitized to death and violence, Rick's son Carl is also experiencing this. During this episode the survivors find Sophia in a barn with a bunch of walkers(zombies) and she just so happens to now be one of them. Sophia is or was just a little girl and is then killed by Rick, further showing him becoming desensitized. After this happens, his son carl tells his mom that he would've done it too, even though him and Sophia were very close and he's just a boy. Just about all of the characters in "The Walking Dead" are becoming desensitized to death and violence after going through so much of it just to survive. Hopefully we'll never have to find out if this is how humans will react in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
ReplyDeleteI also watched the midseason premier of "the Walking Dead." The premise of this show is a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse, well, surviving, or at least trying to. In the episode titled "Nebraska," the survivors morals are tested in different ways. The main character, Rick, is forced to do things in this episode that he would not have normally done if he was living a normal life. He was approached by two other survivors who he had never met before, and killed them both because he felt threatened. This act of violence was uncommon for Rick, who is usually a rational thinker and likes to solve problems without violence. I think the Walking Dead does a great job of showing just how long people can remain sane in an environment like the one theyre in without losing control. Another example of someone doing something they normally would not do is when another survivor named Hershell takes up drinking again after many years of sobriety. However, some characters, like Ricks wife Lori, have not yet succumbed to the stresses of the new, dark world.
