Spork

I recently watched the movie Spork on Netflix. It was a very strange movie about a young girl who was born with both male and female parts. She seemed to have a sad life, living in a small trailor with her deceased mother buried in the backyard. Her name is unknown, the nickname spork is used throughout the movie to symbolize a mix between two things. In just about every scene Spork is shown a lone with her head down being laughed at. Children threw things and made fun of her in school. Many stereotypes and cliques were shown in the elementary school. The popular mean girls, jocks, and racial groups mocked seperation and cliques. Spork does have two friends, one her obnoxious neighbor and the other a small boy who is rumored to be gay. There is a very emotional scene of Spork talking to her mother's tombstone screaming asking why she left her, Closeups of her teary eyes and dark music is played as she sobs about not being normal and needing a mother. A realization came to her as she decided not to care about the bullies and stand up for herself when being picked on. With help from her friends, Spork enters a dance competition and wins. This movie has a theme of confidence and friendship. Eventually, the boy asked Spork to be his girlfriend. The happy ending brought a lot of things into perspective. The movie had a strong anti bullying message, showing the terrible affects it has on people and their confidence and overall happiness.
