Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of the more interesting movies i have seen. Raoul Duke played by Johnny Depp goes through a drug binge with his attorney Dr Gonzo in Las Vegas. The films unique use of camera throughout every scene gives the movie a very unique feel. During one scene where Dr Gonzo and Raoul are going through Las Vegas they both inhale ether before there stop at a hotel. Ether used to be a anesthetic used in hospitals until it was found to be highly flammable. The drugs anesthetic properties have made it a popular recreational drug. Ether combined with all the other drugs they have been taking formed a formidable opponent against both of them. As they stumbled out of the car after crashing the camera is at a low angle showing them both stumbling. To put it in their view the camera switches to a first person view and also is spinning back and forth. Later in the scene they are on a merry-go-round bar where Dr Gonzo starts to get, "the fear." Loud merry-go-round music is playing and the camera is spinning with the merry-go-round giving it a very dizzying feel. The unique use of camera throughout the entire film gives the viewer a small glimpse of what is happening inside the mind of someone who is on some drug. This makes this film one of the most unique i have ever seen.

Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas is also a movie that I rather enjoyed watching. The scene that really stood out to me was the opening scene with Raoul Duke, the main character, narrating. In this scene, both Raoul and his attorney Dr.Gonzo are high on some sort of hallucinagenic drug and Raoul is driving out of control as his attorney is freaking out. What is cool about this scene, as Raoul is driving, there is an extreme close up on his eyes and he begins to see and hear bats flying around the car. You are able to tell it is a hallucination because it shows the bats only in his eyes to tell us as viewers that it's just what he sees and is not actually there. As he tries to wave his hand out of control to fight off the bats, the camera switches to a long shot and it shows the car driving as he is swerving all over the road. As the camera gets back to the car, it is a low angle shot looking up at Gonzo as he asks Raoul if he said anything. As they begin to drive, they pass a hitch hiker and Gonzo insists on picking him up. As the car stops, There is another close up on Raoul's face as he stands up, still in his seat, and says "No we can't stop here, this is bat country". Still in belief there are bats around.
