While I was home sick and watching TV, this Oreo commercial came on and it instantly put a smile on my face. This commercial is directed towards both adults and children by showing a school board member meeting becoming bombarded by their children. Each child is holding either a plate of Oreos or a glass of milk and because of the cookies and children, the adults begin smiling and the meeting took a turn from bored to happy. This is a propaganda technique of transfer. Making the connection that happiness comes with every Oreo cookie. Also, the commercial has a plain-folk feel to it. The actors are all dresses in casual-business attire and it takes place in a school auditorium. This is making Oreos affordable for everyone and practical for families. By the end of the commercial you are given an image of an Oreo with a banner around it saying "Celebrate the kid inside". This is a mix of direct order and the bandwagon technique. It's direct order because the message isn't asking the consumer or suggesting celebrating your early childhood, but instead it's telling you directly that Eat Oreos and celebrates your inner child. It's also bandwagoning because the image exploits the desire to be part of the crowd. The popularity of a product is important to many people. Even if most of us say we make our own choice when buying something we often choose well-advertised items, the popular ones.

I thought this was a great commercial! It was very cute and comical. I think the ad uses the plain folk propaganda technique because so many people can relate to the situation show. At some point, we’ve all been bored whether it was at a conference or simply sitting in class and we look for something that will brighten the mood. This is also why it can appeal to anyone of any age, because everyone can relate to it. I totally agree with the ads use of transfer. The commercial makes it seem that if you eat an Oreo, you will instantly become happy and forget about all your worries. It supposedly brings out the inter kid in people, from the parents to the principal. To even reinforce this idea, the slogan at the end of the commercial is “Recess for everyone.” The color contrast of clothes also emphasis the happiness of childhood innocence, something we all desire. The parents are all dressed in dull grays and blues. The children then appear in bright floral colors such as orange, pink and purple. The children with the Oreos literally brighten up the room. Just by watching this commercial, as Bailey said, makes someone smile.
