the dog strikes back commercial

For this mojo i have decided to write about my favorite super bowl 2012 commercial it is entitled "The Dog Strikes Back" it is about a dog that likes to go for a run with a certain volkswagon that drives by his house at times. The dog although very excited is depressed because he cannot fit throught the doggy door because he is too fat and has let himself go so he decides to spend a whole year excersising to be able to run with the volkswagon next year. there is one film technique that really brings this ad togeather and that is the montage of the dog workingout at first you see shots of him walking up and down the stairs then working out on a tredmil then pulling weights doing yoga and refusing food. This shows how he works out throughout a whole year in a matter of seconds. it also uses the propoganda technique glittering generalities by using the slogan "thats the power of german engineering" this is a broad sweeping turn and it does not give and exact definition and does not tell the audience exacally what the power of German engineering is. This commercial leaves the audience laughing and that is good because the veiwer remembers the commercials that make  them laughing.

  1. I also saw this Volkswagen commercial during the super bowl this year. This commercial shows a dog that wants to run with the new VW Beetle Turbo, but is too big to fit through his doggy door. He begins to work out and lose some weight and eventually gets to be small enough to fit through the door. The commercial is designed to make the viewer laugh and really is a montage of many different shots with some background music playing. The lighting in this commercial is natural and it is filmed during the day. I agree that the viewer is basically left wondering at the end, but the car is so iconic that people all around the world can recognize it and identify what it is before they're actually told straight forward. The main camera angles used are the medium shot and the close up, and the camera does a lot of panning but no tracking. I also agree with the fact that Glittering Generalities can be seen in the slogan VW uses. In all reality, the fact that people will remember the ad will get people talking about the car and eventually spread the companies name which is their goal.
