Sherlock Holmes
I watched Sherlock holmes yesterday and this is probably one of my favorite movies. This movie, to me, has a very different feel to it. I love how Robery Downey Jr. Plays his character. In the beginning, Sherlock is participating in an underground boxing match. In this scene, the music that is playing feels symbolic and matches the movement of the characters. For example, the song is an Irish jig and it is very fast pace and up beat and Sherlock and his competitor are fighting all for fun and games. Sherlock looks like he is having fun with it and isn't really taking it serious. But in the middle of the fight, his competitor punches him in the face and the music stops playing. It is showing that it is a serious matter and Sherlock needs to stop playing around with it. After that Sherlock beats the crap out of him. Also in another scene, Sherlock Holmes is trying to follow his ex-lover Irene Adler to find out who she is working for and he dresses up in a disguise and follows her to her destination. In this scene, sherlock puts a hat on for part of the disguise and when he tilts it to the side the camera tilts to the side too like it's coordinating his movement. Kind've like the music in the fight scene. This Dutch Angle is used for confusion in the character.

I recently watched Sherlock Holmes as well. A long with the use of Dutch angle, the movie also shows lighting techniques throughout some fight scenes. As you know, Holmes is a great fighter. Before he fights, there is always a slow motion montage of what he is about to do. They show you in detail what the fight will turn out to be before it happens. They show this by having him give step by step directions of what he is about to do. Along with that, they show what he is going to do and how it will affect the opposing partner. While they are showing this, they have a down light focused on Holmes. This is to give focus on only what he is doing and not pay attention to much the partner. Although you can still see what the partner is doing and how he is reacting, the light on him is much dimmer. Also during this they have many low angled shots of Holmes to show how he is stronger than the partner. Once the slow motion is done, they show the fight in real time. While doing this, there is a long shot and only some panning. They wanted you to get the full effect of the fight without really distorting the image.
