The Road

I recently watched a film called The Road and saw many examples of film techniques we covered in class. The Father and son are alive in a post-apocalyptic world and are fighting for survival and trying to reach the coast in an attempt to find something better. There are many scenes where a wide angle is used to show how destroyed and barren the world is. There is little to no light throughout the majority of the film and many scenes just show one of the characters, usually the father to show who's in power which is a great example of mis en scene. The movie uses many close up shots on faces of people because there aren’t many prevalent characters in the plot until the end where the boy luckily meets the man, scavenging to survive with his wife and kids after the boy’s father had passed away on the costal beach. The ending of the movie really leaves you wondering what is going to happen and the sound really could explain exactly what was happening in the plot throughout the entire film. The editing throughout really connected scenes well and the camera basically always tracking the characters really reminds you they’re alone and makes you understand the entire scene very well.
