the fast and the furious
i just watched one of my favorite racing movies of all times. i think its because of all the great camera work in this film that made it so great. this whole film was mostly shot in low long shots or medium shots. like when ever they talk to each other and they are not racing or running from the police they are in a inclosed room with each other they use medium shot to tell there story with out disclosing much else. i also noticed in this film there are lots and lots of low camera angles when they are filming the car chases they use these shots to make it looking like the cars are moving fast then there really are to make you think that they are moving really fast throughout the chase. while they are racing or running you can see that once in a while they will do a medium shot to show the drivers so that you can see how they are reacting to the driving and near death moments. most movies take all sorts of shots like close ups long shots medium shots extreme long shots with this film i always wondered how much better the film would have been had there been all the shots that are used in most films.

I recently watched The Fast and Furious and agree that its one of my favorite racing movies. One of the best scenes in the movie is when Dom, a suspected criminal, takes Brian, an undercover cop, to “Race Wars.” Brian is dating Dom’s sister, and he is working undercover to try and prove Dom’s gangs innocence. The police believe that they hijacked a truck and stole 6 million dollars. When Brian continuously pressed on the issue of where Dom gets his money, he finally gives him the answer, Race Wars. It turns out to be a giant street racing event in the middle of the desert. In this scene, many film techniques are used to what happens at this event. Through long shots, you can see there are hundreds of cars and probably thousands of people. While close up shots are used to show specific individuals or cars, showing significant people and amazing cars. When racing, the camera uses long shots, along with lots of tracking and panning to emphasize the speed the cars are moving at. The music also switches to much a much faster tempo, and it raises excitement and thrill during the scene. One last film technique was the editing, specifically the shot duration. It consists of many short length shots where the cars simply blow by the camera shot in a few seconds. All of these techniques put together, build the atmosphere and intensity around the scene.
ReplyDeleteI also have seen the movie The Fast and the Furious and agree that it is a great race movie. The film techniques used in this movie really add to its quality as a good action movie. It would be very easy to make this movie look unrealistic but the effects that they use in this movie makes it a really good film. During the racing scenes of this movie, in order to be able to see whats going on in the cars they use a lot of tracking during these scenes. This allows us to see character’s faces and expressions during the high speed races. Also during these scenes there is the occasional moment of panning to allow the audience to understand just how fast the cars are actually moving.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Steve that one of the biggest techniques that this film uses is shot duration. This really makes the high speed racing scenes very exciting and also causes slight panic in the audience who might think that a major crash was coming. All of the techniques used in this film really added to the intensity of the scenes and an exciting movie.
I am also a fan of the Fast and Furious movie series. They have a lot of intricate camera angles which help to create the suspense and action that the movie series is known for. The directors do a good job using tracking to help the viewer feel like they are traveling at fast speeds. The shot duration is also well done with a mixture of short duration and long duration shots. These shots are very important during the car races and chases. The shots allow for the viewer to see the position of the other cars and characters. The quick shots during the car chases also allow the viewer to see the driver’s reactions and facial expressions. This helps to characterize the good guys and the bad guys by allowing the viewer to see the reactions of the other drivers when something doesn’t go according to plan. The movie also uses a lot of music that has a fast tempo and the songs are usually well known amongst the younger generations. The music gets you pumped up for the race or any other action scenes that take place in the movie.
