Jersey Shore
I watched Jersey Shore last night and noticed a couple techniques that the director used. The director emphasized the use of camera work to help the viewers understand what the actors were feeling. This was about them all going to a club in downtown Jersey. The club was called Karma. At the scene where they all go to the club, the director uses tracking to show all of the people there dancing. It reall help shows the viewers how crowded the club was as the crew had stated it was. The director also uses camera work of a long shot as the crew is walking home from the club. There is a long shot of them walking down the street to show how empty and vacant the steets were. The producers use sound with the different types of music to show the different moods of the house guests. For example, one of the house members,Mike, was blammed for something he didnt do and he went on a rampage. At this scene, the music was more up beat and loud. Such as the thought that were going through his head. Also, when the two girls, Snooki and Dena, are at work, they decide to take off and walk the boardwalk. When they do, their boss finds out and gets mad, causing the music to become more intense. When he finally found the girls, leading up to him walking up to them, the music gets faster until he gets to them. Causing the viewers to feel what the boss was feeling with them running off from work.

I love Jersey Shore. I may not be moral or thought-provoking, but it is absolutely addicting. Between all of the fighting, disagreements, and drunken confusion going on in the house, the producers have established a great way to set things straight. The producers use the one-on-one interviews very strategically during the course of the show. They can reveal the truth to an argument or someone’s true feelings about a situation. For example, on a recent episode, Snooki and Deena made a cake for their boss. The editors show the cake being finished and everyone else going to bed except for Mike. Then the next morning, they show that part of the cake was eaten and Deena being upset. Mike has a reputation to cause drama and stir up problems around the house. The editors used his characterization as the “bad guy” to their advantage to make it seem as if he ate the cake. The editors only use clips that point all evidence towards Mike. Jenny accuses Mike in front of everyone, but they do not show Mike’s rebuttal. They show Snooki’s and Deena’s one-on-ones blaming and being upset with Mike. But they also show Mike complaining about Snooki and Deena. Thus, further evidence that he ate the cake. The editors keep us in suspense until Paully finally confesses that he actually ate the cake. In a one-on-one interview, we learn that Mike is extremely angry but playing it off cool. He says he is “guilty until proven innocent in this house”. They end the episode with Mike making a plan to get revenge on Snooki. He plans to prove that she cheated on her boyfriend with Mike, which is true. This leaves us in great suspense and creates the addicting quality that will make me, and many others, come back next week.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I watched a brand new episode of jersey shore. I hope you guys saw it. It was based off of the one you talked about sarah. Mike the bad guy as protrayed was being sneaky along with the unit. They would zoom on him during his phone calls. to show he was at power they had the camera closer to him while showing Snookie. As the show carried on night time came and mike and friend the unit were trying to pull of the plan. The camera would pan as they moed throughout the club and then screen fades and music plays cutting to a commercial. When they came back the music is louder and they focused on snookie and her boyfriends face. The camera went to a wide angle and zoomed away to show mike coming closer. Snookie figured out what was going on and left. During the show the way they transition from scene to scene is different. Its either from a person to an object or person to person, all creating suspense. Another part of the show showing these different transitions is when pauly and vinny are moving a bed out. They at first had them talking at medium shot then it cut to the bed. Then back to them with sneaky music. finally they removed the bed from the room. Overall the show had many techinques even though its not famiy oriented. Like sarah said its very addicting.
