Old Spice Champion Commercial
Old Spice has done it again, another commercial featuring their trademark "wtf" humor. This commercial features some white guy listening to an inspirational tape and repeating what it say, something that people with self esteem issues may listen to in order to feel better about themselves. The advertisement obviously uses the propaganda technique humor in order to make consumers pay attention to the commercial as well as remember it. The propaganda technique called transfer which is saying that if you use our product or do something or other than this will happen, it's usually something pretty far fetched and absurd. Old Spice's commercials never lack far fetched and or absurd consequences for using their products. For this commercial they say that if you use Old Spice deodorant you will have big muscles, cool hair, a sophisticated and diverse group of friends, own an enviromentally responsible sports sedan, have the ability to date Heather Gram and then brake up with her because you need your space, and you will win ALL the sports. So basically according to Old Spice, if you use our products you will be the greatest thing ever. Obviously this isn't true, but thats part of Old Spice's trademark humor that tends to set their advertisements ahead of the others.

I have also seen the Old Spice Champion commercial. I thought it was very funny. It appeals to the male audience and from teenagers up. The main purpose of the ad is to make people think that they will be the best if they use their product. I also agree that old spice uses humor in most of their ads, including this one. Also, there was sex appeal used. It was saying that if you used their product, you would get big muscles and nice hair. Also, you would get attractive girls like in thebeach scene and the scene with Heather Gram. Also, there was tracking used during the scene where he has a horse back rider on his back and he is outrunning all of the horses. This is saying that if you use their product, you will become faster than a horse. There was also snob appeal used a lot in this ad. One scene where it is used is in the scene where he is sitting with his friends. The line he says is "I have a sophisticated and diverse group of friends". This shows that there is snob appeal by making his friends look upper class. All of these film techniques are used to transfer the idea that if you use their product, you will become perfect and even superhuman.
