On an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Adam
Levine guess stared. Ellen was
interviewing him, talking about his plans.
When Adam said that he was going to be on American Horror Stories, he
explained how he had never heard the show because he did not like scary
things. When he was talking, the camera
was a close up of just him, but then Ellen responds to what he is saying the
camera cuts to the two of them sitting on the chairs talking. As Ellen is speaking, the camera cuts to the entrance
that all of her guests come in, and the audience sees a man dressed like
Christina Aguilera walk in. The camera
zooms out to show all three of them in the screen as the man sneaks up behind
Adam. As he gets near, the camera shows the
man scream in his ear and scar Adam. A
little later as Adam is laughing at his embarrassment of being scared, the show
rewinds his reaction to show him how he reacted, and that the man was supposed
to be dressed as Christina. During this
replay, the used a sound effect to make Adam have a more spaced-out voice as he
was talking before he was scared. This
was done so the at home viewer could differentiate between the recap and what is actually
happening. After the clip is shown, the
screen flashes to white, very quickly, before going back to his interview.

Ellen DeGeneres is an extremely successful day-time talk show host. On paper, you would think she would be more controversial and less widely adored. She is a lesbian, married to Portia DiRossi, vegan, and not afraid to share her opinions. But, somehow she manages to be one of the most popular television personalities every year. Another important characteristic of hers is she always seems to make NY Times’ “Top 100 Most Influential People” list every year. This is what sets her apart from hosts like Opera or Jay Leno. Ellen uses her TV show to advocate for the greater good. Some of her best examples occur when she has inspiring no name guests and gives them much-needed money or prizes. She chooses over-looked heroes: teachers, firefighters, police officers, cancer survivors, etc. For example, she had teacher Sara Ferguson on the show to tell her moving story. She is an elementary teacher from Chester, Pennsylvania and, because of budget cuts, her salary was cut. But, Sara did something amazing: she kept working and teaching without pay for “however long it takes”. Ellen and her wonderful charm decided to give Sara, and her school district, $100,000 each. Reasons like this are exactly why viewers adore Ellen. Everyone loves an underdog, a genuine hero, and the well-deserved rewards these people receive. It gives us hope in rough times. If people can find hope just through watching and dancing with her for an hour every day, then I doubt she will be stopping anytime soon.
