After the third time going to see “The Avengers”, I thought I’d
write about some of the great film techniques used in this movie. In the scene
where Natasha (Or the Black Widow) goes to get Bruce Banner in Calcutta, the lighting
is very dim and gritty, reflecting the location. As Banner follows the little
girl Natasha is using as a decoy to an empty house, a family is shown sitting outside
with their belongings, watching a very small television set. This shows the
conditions Banner is living in while he is trying to help sick people in need.
This also ties into juxtaposition and the dual nature of Banner’s character by
showing his quiet, awkward personality and the need to help people, as opposed
to his alter persona, the Hulk. Natasha even comments on the irony of his
situation, stating that he picked a “hell of a place to stay” while trying to
avoid stress. At the beginning of the film, when Loki comes through portal
produced by the Tesseract, the camera tracks around the platform he is on,
using an arc shot, before showing an extreme close-up of his face as he slowly
looks up. This adds much more drama to the scene and heightens the tension of
the situation. During one scene when Captain America is talking to someone over
his earpiece, the camera shows him in the reflection of a broken off rear-view
mirror, which has to be one of the neatest shots in the movie. Instead of using
a shaky camera approach for the fight against the Chitauri invasion, it is
filmed with steady camera motions to keep the viewer from getting too lost in
the confusion to follow what’s happening.

i also have seen this movie over the weekend and i thought it was spectacular in the way it was presented and how the actors portrayed their roles. i also thought that the way they set up the movie was genius. They had multiple marvel movies before and they all introduced the characters in this movie by telling each one of their stories. they used a lot of tracking and medium shots in this movie as well and this helped to show you their stunts during the movie so u could follow the character as if you were right there they also as Shelby stated above me used great use of dramatic irony such as the hulk when he tells them he has a secret to not turning into the hulk and not getting angry but his secret is he is always angry and they also used it with the character iron man because he spent his whole career inventing new weapons for the military to use and then after all it turns out that he is his most dangerous weapon. This movie uses suspense very well as well they have the main heroes in very close to death situations and it keeps your attention because you know they will come out alive but you do not know how.
ReplyDeleteI also saw the movie the avengers and along with what seems like everyone else on the planet I loved it. It had everything that could be expected from a summer blockbuster with tons of action and explosions and whatnot but there was one thing about it that surprised. For being a huge summer blockbuster and one based on a comic book series as well, it was surprisingly well written. The dialogue was often hilarious and actually made the characters feel real to the people watching, that is as real as a team of superheroes can be. Another thing that I really ended up liking about the movie was its editing or to be particular it’s amazing special effects. Throughout most of the movie you saw little special effects other than the occasional explosion or something but then towards the end they really pulled out all the stops. There was an alien army complete with death machines and a whole space fleet and of course plenty of super power based violence. It wasn’t just cool looking though but actually believable all of the aliens and there various weapons looked as real as the actors you saw fighting them. All in all though I was more than impressed with the movie as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Dave. Each actor played off their character extremely well. I was most astounded by Mark Ruffalo. He played Bruce Banner perfectly. By this, I mean he made Bruce be an extremely calm character even though his opposite self, The Incredible Hulk, was and is extremely angry. By doing this he made Bruce seem like a crazy person or that he has yet to control his metamorphosis. But, later in the movie you see that he has gained control of his changing shown with the line, "The reason I'm able to control him is because I'm always angry." This, in my opinion is a great role for Ruffalo because of all these reasons. He made the viewer feel that hell will be broken loose at the drop of a nail with his small, little outbursts throughout the film and his calm and contempt nature he has given Bruce. The other two new characters, Black Widow and Hawkeye, were portrayed well too. Like what Ruffalo did with Bruce, keeping a calm character, is what Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner did with Black Widow and Hawkeye except that, instead of the anticipation of Banner loosing his cool, they made these characters feel like true and powerful assassins to the viewer, which is what Stan Lee did with the comics. This was a great movie that had great development and story line. I would recommend anyone to see it.
